A personal essay on blended family life: the unconditional love of a spouse who stayed and a stepson who keeps showing up, and holding gratitude beside grief.
I love our routine and our life. But like you….as always….we are aligned in waiting, and hoping one day our family table will be full again. One person things she is “winning” but in fact she is deeply damaging many people in this world and most importantly her children. She is a very sick woman who I doubt will ever realize she is sick. That is sad. Sad to be her and live the way she lives. I cant imagine the massive noise in her head trying to maintain her control because of all her fear she holds within. Its admirable that through all this you are kind, loving and wonderful. Many break and you persevere.
You see her clearly and still lead with compassion ... that's who you are, and it's why our home is what it is. One day the table will be full. Until then, I'm grateful it's you across from me.
